Fascinating portrait - with many interesting details, and the touch it takes to move a portrait from a simply picture of a face to an impression offered about the same face.
As first the parts I like, understand and enjoy -
The idea with the shadow, created by the smoke of the face - this is an interesting idea.
The diagonal setting - not because of ''diagonal'', but in this case it reverses the usual view from left to right - and the when starting at the right side, following the absolute classical line of the neck, over the strong impression of the lipstick towards the eye - interrupted by the already mentioned shadow of the smoke.
As a sum it adds an impression to the face, going above a pure celebration of pictured elegance, beauty of sympathy. Harsh light, with overexposed areas are leaving, or leading the main attention to the centre of the face.
The parts I do not really understand, or maybe do not like (?) are again related to the use of smoke.
There is the shape of the ''cloud'' - I think a more oval shape, reaching the area above the head would have been better for the balance, now you get a very heavy middle part in the image.
The shadow of the smoke is taking away attention, focus from at least one eye - which makes it harder to find a suitable spot to let the eye rest - not sure if you understand - but the eyes are rushing a bit too much, trying to find the spot to relate too.
There is a massive shadow over the nose - which again, from my point of view is too much, too dark there.
And the lighter parts of the hair appear in a strange way - almost clumsy ?
Still, I like the setting, impression and harsh light in this portrait very much, I like the composition, but miss clarity, mainly in the face.

Nydelig portrett og godt SH arbeid. Skulle likt å sett det litt mer kvadratisk?
